Is Maynard James Keenan really a pretentious jerk?

It's kind of ridiculous, but I am genuinely concerned that Maynard is a bad person. I was just curious as to whether or not there was any truth behind the floating rumors... he seems like an intellectual guy, I was just wondering if he is also a steaming pile of cow dung.
